A FEW WORDS
ABOUT THE ARTIST

Angie Chapman is an Abstract Expressionistic Artist residing in Peterborough, Ontario Canada. Throughout her early years into adulthood, Angie enjoyed creating art in the form of pencil and charcoal sketches to pastel paintings to traditional knit works.

Angie pursued a career in Interior Design and opened her own business, Interiors Just for You in 1997. It was through her Interior Design business where her passion for colour and texture first came to light. Both colour and texture led Angie to her newest career as an artist, where these elements are the common thread throughout her paintings.

The Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi is the main theme or message in her work. ‘Perfection lies in the paths we may not have chosen and following them to see where it leads us. The process may not be comfortable at times but well worth the journey.’

Angie's
Process

Angie states, ‘There is Perfection in Imperfection’ which is important in her process. Angie will begin a painting from a thought, an emotion, an experience through nature or the elements. Often the original thought changes as the painting evolves and morphs into what it is meant to become. She begins a painting with a plan, but as the painting progresses Angie often sees an image emerge in the texture. She then adapts to it and incorporates it into her work rather than changing the painting to suit her original idea.

In her words, ‘Although there is a certain amount of forethought put into my compositions or designs, conceptually my work is very process oriented in that as a child I enjoyed lying in the grass and watching images form in the clouds and this has inspired me to see beyond what is tangible’.

Angie’s paintings are highly textured using acrylic mediums, acrylics and mixed media. It is the depth created from this texture and the layers of colour which produce hidden images and interest in all her paintings.

Angie’s work can be seen in private and group shows, as well as online galleries.

She received an Exhibition Grant from the Ontario Arts Council in 2016 for her show entitled ‘From Realism to Abstraction’ and her painting ‘Edge of the Precipice’ has recently been added to Gallea’s online collection ‘Best of Abstract Art Collection’.

Angie’s work is currently shown online at Artmajeur and Gallea and in the homes of her collectors.
